1. What is CDEM?

 

Launched in 2016 by K. J. Somaiya College of Science & Commerce in collaboration with Mumbai Metropolitan Region Environment Improvement Society, the Capacity Development Programme in Environment Management (CDEM) aims to deepen understanding, enhance knowledge and provide practical skills to meet the challenges of Sustainable Development of rapidly growing cities.


2. What modules are included under CDEM?

 

CDEM Programme consists of five modules. Each module is designed to explore the science, economics, policies, and planning involved in urban environment management through lectures, discussions, field visits, group activities & case studies. The modules are thoughtfully designed to provide hands-on experience, facilitated by experts from across the country, enabling a strong network of sustainability thought leaders from diverse fields.

The five modules that comprise CDEM 2019-2020 are

1. Environmental Policy & Planning

2. Green Built Environment

3. Environmental & Social Impact Assessment

4. Sustainable Cities

5. Blue-Green Infrastructure for Climate Resilience.


3. What is the duration of the programme?

 

The course consists of five modules of five days' duration.


4. What is the pedagogical approach?

 

Presentation, group activities, field visits, panel discussions, hands-on learning experience, short films, case studies, documentaries etc.


5. Is there any hands-on experience or field-visit?

 

Yes, hands-on experiences and/or site-based learning visits are arranged as a pedagogical approach.


6. Who can register for this course/ what qualification do I need to apply for this course?

 

Participants enrolling for individual modules should have a graduate degree in any discipline or a minimum of 5 years of work experience in the relevant field.

11. What does the fee include?

 

The fee includes:

- study material,

- field visits,

- breakfast, lunch and evening tea 


12. What is the refund policy?

 

For Single Modules -  Up to 48 hrs prior to the commencement of module an administrative fee of 20% will be retained by KJSSC and 80% will be refunded. No fee will be refunded for last minute cancellations (less than 48 hrs) and or no show. 

 

For All Modules - Up to 48 hrs prior to the commencement of the first module an administrative fee of 20% will be retained by KJSSC and 80% will be refunded. After that no refund will be provided, however, the participant can nominate another individual to attend the programme. 

No fee will be refunded for last minute cancellations (less than 48 hrs) or no-show. 


13. Is there any accommodation facility for participants? 

 

Accommodation can be made available at an additional cost at the Somaiya hostel (AC/Non-AC) on request. For hostel charges and availability please contact the programme coordinator in advance.
